My dad loved flowering shrubs. His three favorites were gardenias, camellias and hydrangeas. For years I’ve been searching for two of his favorite camellia bushes — the Purple Dawn and the Pink Perfection. No success to date, but the search will intensify when we get situated on our land in the country.
Knowing this inherited love for camellias, a friend of mine recommended I visit the Camellia Garden in the Columbus Botanical Gardens. I got there a little past the prime time to view them due to the warm winter. I’ll definitely go back again. I felt like I was spending time with my dad as I walked through over 500 varieties of Camellias!
I love what I captured there, but am well aware that many people — my husband among them — will say, “they’re out of focus.” They’re really not. Using a LensBaby Velvet 56 I was able to capture in camera what I saw with my heart. This beautiful poem by Rupi Kaur expresses my presentation of these images well:
is not about how many people
like your work
if your heart likes your work
if your soul likes your work
it’s about how honest
you are with yourself

I am currently between studios. While the plan was to move from the current location to the new one, the new location is not ready yet. So I will temporarily be without a physical studio location for a month or so. However, I will continue to accept on-location sessions. I am just moving -- not closing.
