I was so excited when Danny at Kowaliga Whole Health Pet Care in Eclectic Alabama got in touch with me asking if I could do the Christmas Pet Portraits for their clients. I love animals so was very happy to work with them to offer this service.
I had to keep these treasures under wraps until after Christmas since many of them were being used on Christmas cards, but am happy they may now be revealed.
And how do you photograph six Dachshunds (all rescues!!) in one image? Well, you have a lot of help and you put the person in the photo, too.
Here’s a little “behind the scenes” footage of how this was accomplished! (I’m not sure who that is that said they were going to get a margarita after the session was over!! )
Since most of the animals I photograph are in shelters or foster homes I had to do a little adjusting in my expectations during the sessions. The poor shelter animals are either so excited to be with people they’re hard to control or they’re so frightened and confused about why they’re not with their families they are difficult to photograph. I’d honestly forgotten how much loving care can do for an animal. Although many of these pets were adopted from shelters or rescues they were all now beautiful, clean, well-behaved, and we got such lovely pictures for them. It just served to strengthen my desire to get the message out about spaying and neutering and adopting from shelters and rescues. Every animal should have the degree of love and care that I witnessed during these sessions.

I am currently between studios. While the plan was to move from the current location to the new one, the new location is not ready yet. So I will temporarily be without a physical studio location for a month or so. However, I will continue to accept on-location sessions. I am just moving -- not closing.
