If my information is correct, the old Standard Club located in Montgomery Alabama was built in 1929 by architect Frank Lockwood.  It was a thriving Jewish dining and golf club until the late 1990s.  I can remember driving by and admiring it when I was new to Montgomery.  It closed in 2004 and has been vacant since that time.  The grounds have been used to open a housing project of single-family homes and townhouses.  The old clubhouse was recently donated by Bill and Lucy Jackson to Hospice of Montgomery.  I was honored to photograph them for the article by Brenda Robertson Dennis which appeared in the September 2014 River Region Living magazine.

I love to photograph old, abandoned buildings.  I feel such a connection to history when I’m in them.  I asked the Jacksons if I could linger a bit after the official shoot was over and take some photographs.  They graciously welcomed me to enter.  I loved it.  I could just imagine the people who had laughed and danced there, the cooks and servers working, and the stairs clicking with the movement of feet.  Every building should be remembered.  They keep so many stories of life.  Here are a few of the images I collected that day (and I accidentally included one of the images twice).

I hope I get asked back to photograph the results of the renovations planned by Hospice of Montgomery.

I maintain a small studio off Carmichael Road in Montgomery AL and many sessions are scheduled on location. All sessions are by appointment only.
