While cleaning out an old storage building on our land we came across a forgotten Singer sewing machine that belonged to my husband’s grandmother. It had been ravaged by time, rodents, and weather. My husband planned to take it to the dump. Luckily, he checked with me first and I said, “Absolutely not!” It was not salvageable in its entirety, but I was able to save pieces of it. I’m particularly proud of saving the drawers. After they were thoroughly cleaned, I primed them with BIN Primer and finished with a couple of coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk. I lined the inside with paper printed like old wallpaper. One was filled with art supplies and given to my daughter. A second was filled with coffee-related items and given to one daughter-in-law. A third was filled with herb-related items and given to the other daughter-in-law. That left me with three of them. One is filled with small devotional books, a little vase of flowers, and the TV remotes and stays on my bedside table (which happens to be painted with the same Fusion paint color!). The other two are filled with brush-lettering pens and cards. I know I could have added some decorations before or after painting and changed the knobs, but I wanted them to stay as close as possible to the original drawers. I added a little tag on each of them with information on the original owner. I wish I’d taken a “before” picture, but at least I have these.
In Montogmery AL Fusion paint is available at Robin’s Nest located in Amy’s Antique and Flea Mall on the Eastern ByPass.
