I love exploring creative ways to use photography. Making Auratone Prints is one of my favorites.
To make an Auratone Print from one of my images I first convert it to a black and white “negative” image. This is printed on transparency film. The back of the image is then painted with a special metallic paint. The resulting print is reminiscent of the orotone prints on glass associated with contemporary art of the early 20th century.
This Auratone Print is from an image of a magnolia in Oak Park many years ago. It is framed and available for purchase at Southern Art & Makers Collective at 1228 Madison Avenue in Montgomery AL. The website states the hours as Wednesday-Saturday 12-6 PM but I think the pandemic has caused a fluctuation in the hours. Be sure to call ahead (334.303.2558) before heading that way.
A photograph of an auratone really doesn’t do it justice. There’s no way to capture the way it shimmers and captures your attention. I hope you’ll be able to stop by and see it for yourself.
