Red Hibiscus

I had to water everything again this morning. The rain seems to go around us every time — like we have a dome over us. After watering the backyard I noticed the back of this red and yellow hibiscus and thought it deserved a capture.

Iphone 14 Pro Max with a good bit of editing in Photoshop. I also used AI to remove an ugly leaf and replace it with pretty ones.

August Color Chase Challenge: Faded Turquoise

It is too dang hot in Alabama this month to venture outside so all my August submissions are still-life photos taken in the thank-you-Lord-for airconditioning.

August Color Chase Challenge: Faded Turquoise

Vintage Stitch Mistress toy sewing machine — Manufactured in the late 1940s to early 1950s by Genero Machine Works in Long Beach, California. This really worked! It used manual power via a rotating handwheel with a wooden handle. Unfortunately, my wooden handle is missing. It used a single thread to create a chain stitch, which would easily unravel if the thread was pulled. It was known for unique mid-century colors. This one was originally teal but has faded over the years so it worked for the faded turquoise challenge this month.

Hemingray 42 Glass Insulator - a classic glass insulator produced by the Hemingray Glass Company starting in 1921 through the 1950s/60s. It was widely used across North America on telegraph and telephone lines. I *think* we found this on the home site of my husband’s grandmother across from where we live now. The makers on Etsy have done some really cool things with these old insulators! Instead of tucking this one back away in a box I plan to order some lamp parts from one of them.

Macro Project 52: Tools & Objects

This is a close-up of a bouquet wrap I made for my oldest granddaughter’s wedding. The material, lace, and buttons are from my 54-year old wedding dress. My initials and wedding date (5.28.1972) are embroidered on the back.

It was a pleasure to spend some time with Julie Beard, the District 2 City Councilwoman in Montgomery AL, while photographing her for the Cover of the August BOOM! Magazine. I learned so much about the district she serves and witnessed first hand how responsive she is to people she meets. Folks in District 2 should be very proud of their representative!
