Spring Blossoms There’s a small group of little wild plum or cherry trees back in an area of our land we can’t easily see and don’t often visit. Several years ago I found these little trees in bloom and fell in love with them. Now I look for them each year. They did not disappoint this year. I took over 1000 photos of them in mid-March with different lens and camera combinations but haven’t found the time yet to edit them. I pulled this one out today for our Glorify God Monday post. Canon 5D Mark III, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens at f/2.8, 1/320s, ISO 125. I used one of the textures from my Afternoon Tea set to intensify the blue tones (soft light mode with masking over blossoms and buds). Peony Detail

Just before this peony started dropping petals I gave it one last photo session with a canon 100mm macro + keno 36mm extension tube at f/16. Einstein studio lighting.

Memorial Day — a federal holiday in the United States for mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May.

I took this photo a few years ago at the Alabama Veterans Memorial Park in Birmingham. Visiting the park was a very moving experience. I highly recommend it for a day trip if you’re in Alabama. Today (Saturday, May 23rd) is World Turtle Day. The day aims to raise awareness about the protection of turtles and tortoises, their disappearing habitats, and the environmental threats they face.

This little fella showed up in our yard Thursday evening. You can see how tiny he is compared to my husband’s hand. It appears to me to be a water turtle and there was no water near his location. So I gave him some water to hydrate in (chlorine free). As much as I wanted to keep him, I knew the chances of his survival in captivity were probably slim. I had my husband take him to our neighbor’s pond and place him near the water so his instincts would decide if he needed to go in the water or remain on land.

It’s the time of year when we’re likely to see turtles crossing the road. If possible, please stop and help them get to safety by putting them off the road in the direction in which they were heading.

May Color Chase Challenge: Dusty Pink

My dad had magnificent Gardenia bushes that were as big as some trees. He would never let us cut the stems but would let us pluck off the open blooms and float them in a bowl of water. That way all the blooms would have a chance to open as Gardenias tend to have more than one bloom per stem. I still do that thinking of my dad’s instructions every time.

These are the last blooms from what has been a record year for our Gardenias. They’re floating in a pretty pink bowl. I have no memory of where it came from. I can tell it was hand painted so am trying to preserve what I can of it.

Solarized Black & White Tulips

I watched a workshop presentation by @padmainguva this week and fell in love with images she’d taken on a lightbox and then converted into black and white solarized images. I couldn’t wait to give it a try.
