Which photographs work best with textures?
Old Wall Texture Set
I’m releasing a new texture set this week in the Etsy Shop. I’ve used textures for many years to add an artistic dimension to photographs I’ve taken. As I seem to be a little obsessed with making textures now I thought I’d start sharing some tips I’ve learned along the way about using them to enhance images.
Today’s topic will be about the photographs that work best with textures.
While I’ve seen textures added to almost any type of image, I’ve found the ones that are most pleasing to me are the ones where there isn’t much detail in the background.
- ones with a lot of negative space
- ones where the subject is in focus and the rest is softly focused or blurred almost completely, so taken with a wide aperture or lensbaby selective focus lens
- simple subjects against plain backgrounds
Here are a few examples I pulled using textures from the new texture set, Old Walls:

Here’s a peek at the new texture set used with these images:
I purposely used grays in this texture set because I don’t particularly like it when a texture changes the colors in my photographs.
Old Walls is now available in the Etsy shop. To thank you for visiting this blog post I’ve created a coupon code for 20% off the Old Walls texture set. Use the code OLDWALLS to apply the discount.
