Auratone Prints

To make an auratone print, an image is converted to a black and white “negative” in photoshop and printed on transparency film. The back of the image is then painted with a metallic paint. The resulting print is reminiscent of the orotone prints on glass associated with contemporary art of the early 20th century. Photographs of these prints don’t do them justice. They shimmer and shine as light hits them and make fascinating pieces of art.

Polaroid Transfers and Emulsion Lifts

Polaroid film was discontinued in 2009 making these original images increasingly rare.

Image Transfer

Image transfer is a technique by which Polaroid peel-apart film is used to create an original print on a range of non-photographic surfaces. When making a transfer, the image is almost immediately pulled away from the negative that is then allowed to develop on another surface. Most of my transfers are applied to acid-free Arches or Fabriano watercolor paper. Many are then hand- colored or painted.
